Jaden Schwartz has hat trick, Joey Daccord makes 27 saves as Kraken beat Kings

SEATTLE — Kraken 4, Kings 2 at Climate Pledge Arena
Notable: Seattle Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord was the star of the third period, rewarded for his efforts when Jaden Schwartz completed a hat trick with an empty netter. That was, improbably, the Kraken’s first shot on goal of the period, and it came with 1:10 remaining.
Schwartz scored his fifth career hat trick and his first as a member of the Kraken. Jordan Eberle, Jared McCann and Brandon Montour earlier this season had the first three three-goal games in Seattle history.
The Kraken’s buzzing top line netted two early goals, each quickly canceled out by the L.A. Kings. But Chandler Stephenson’s second-period tally was the difference until the final two minutes, propped up by Daccord (27 saves).
Goal of the game: On Schwartz’s second goal, Seattle defenseman Josh Mahura dumped L.A.’s Warren Foegele in front of the Kraken bench and acted as something of a decoy. The focus was still on the shoving back at the opposite blue line — would the whistle blow and a penalty result? No? OK! — while Schwartz and Beniers went off on a 2-on-1 and gave Seattle another lead.
That kind of open-ice hit is unusual for the Kraken and Mahura, at least since he signed with the team last summer. It paid off.
Player of the game: Schwartz (three goals)
On tap: The Kraken host the Buffalo Sabres on Monday, the second game of a four-game homestand. Seattle dropped six unanswered goals on the Sabres, who were up 2-0 at the first intermission, on Jan. 11 in Buffalo.
