The Cold Moon

Holiday Mathis on

In her poem "The Moon and the Yew Tree," Sylvia Plath painted the wintry tones of isolation: "The moon is no door. It is a face in its own right. White as a knuckle and terribly upset." The cold supermoon is the invitation to create the warmth the world lacks. Mercury direct seconds the notion to build a fire, share a meal, a story, a hug, and create the cheer, if only to prove that we can.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You deserve a life where ambition and joy aren't things you have to put on hold. A stolen hour here, a project that feeds your soul there -- over time, those sanctuaries might lead to the freedom you crave.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You carry the burden of responsibilities you didn't choose, and you yearn for freedom. It's a difficult spot -- trying to honor what's required of you while hearing the call of your ambitions. Take time to create, explore and just be. That's the priority to honor.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Saying the right thing for the moment depends on being aware of where others are coming from and regarding them with love. Your words will follow where your mind is, and your mind will follow where your heart is.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You're more important to the group than you know. You'll show up, stay long and contribute as much as possible. Being a part of something bigger comes with a wonderful power surge.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Instincts are sharper than logic for sensing trouble ahead. You'll spot it from quite a distance, and that's the time to steer away from it. Don't wait until you're right up near the problem because it will be harder to turn away.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You'll accurately assess your current position and strategically plot your next move. Doing the right thing is only slightly harder than doing the convenient thing, and the extra effort will markedly improve your future station.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). It turns out that fun and games are all tied into your overall efficiency because when you're enjoying yourself, you'll be twice as productive. So build amusement into the plan.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You've been helping someone who is quite capable but would rather see you do the work. Only you can know why this is worthwhile to you, or if a change needs to happen. It will bring you peace to affirm your position either way.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Today brings a reminder that your dreams are important and they require proactive work you probably can't do if you are always working on other people's plans. Make time to stick to your own agenda.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Someone you know views relationships as a contest to dominate rather than a collaboration to cherish. Their outlook can be exhausting, but it's also an opportunity to model the power of cooperation.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Applying energy to silly plans is a waste at best, and at worst, it can lead to disaster. Today you'll ensure your efforts are worthwhile by vetting the plan to assess its feasibility and weighing potential benefits against risks.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Relationships are tricky today and will require heightened self-awareness, particularly about your role in any misunderstandings. Communication is a shared responsibility -- as reflected in the "co" in "communication." You're favored to bridge gaps and foster clearer, more cooperative exchanges.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Dec. 15). You'll be given surprise challenges that are perfectly suited to your heroic nature, and you'll turn them into opportunities to serve others in new ways and also to be the classic hero to yourself -- strong stance, cape flapping in the wind. More highlights: You'll sample many wonderful treats, learn different cultures and be lavished in love, fun and admiration. Libra and Aquarius adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 24, 31, 20 and 14.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Charlie Cox's portrayal of Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe elevated the series into something deeper and grittier. With his rare combination of physicality, vulnerability and moral complexity, the Daredevil isn't just a superhero; he's a blind lawyer grappling with faith, justice and personal demons. Like a Sagittarius, Cox exudes warmth, optimism, humility and a sense of humor that fans adore, a contrast with Daredevil's brooding intensity. Cox was born when the sun, moon, Uranus and Neptune were all in adventurous Sagittarius.
