Golden Globe Awards: Adrien Brody's tribute to immigrant family
Published in Entertainment News
Adrien Brody emotionally praised his family as he picked up his Golden Globe Award on Sunday (05.01.25) night.
The 51-year-old actor scooped the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for 'The Brutalist' - in which he plays an architect who flees post-war Europe to start a new life in America - and he reflected on the experiences of his own immigrant family and the "challenges" they faced in a heartfelt acceptance speech.
He said in part: "To my mom and dad who are here tonight, my goodness you always hold me up. I often credit my mother for her influence on me as an artist but dad you are the foundation of this family and all this love I receive goes back to you.
"To my beautiful and amazing partner Georgina [Chapman], your generosity of spirit, your own resilience and immense creative, you are a daily reminder of how to be, I would not be standing here if it wasn't for you.
"There was a time I felt this may never be a moment afford to me again so thank you.
"This story is really... my character's journey, it is very reminiscent of my mothers and my ancestors of fleeing the horrors of war and coming to this great country and I owe so much to my mother and grandparents for their sacrifice and although I don't know how to fully express all of the challenges you have face and experienced and the many people who have struggled immigrating to this country, I hope this work stands to lift you up a bit and give you a voice.
"I am so grateful, I will cherish this moment for ever."
Adrien also took the time to praise his fellow nominees, Timothee Chalamet ('A Complete Unknown'), Daniel Craig ('Queer'), Colman Domingo ('Sing Sing'), Ralph Fiennes ('Conclave') and Sebastian Stan ('The Apprentice').
He said: "Thank you everyone in this room and Golden Globes for this honour, I'm deeply humbled by this.
"At the core of 'The Brutalist' it's really a story about the human capacity for creation so I'd be amiss not to acknowledge my fellow nominees... You guys reach such heights with your work and are such inspirations to me."
