NEW YORK — Accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann is expected to plead guilty Wednesday to murdering an eighth woman — on top of the seven victims he has already been charged with killing, according to reports.
Heuermann, 62, is expected to plead guilty to the 1996 slaying of 34-year-old mother of two Karen Vergata, whose remains were found in April 1996, with additional remains found in April 2011, Newsday reported Tuesday.
Heuermann will return to the Arthur M. Cromarty Court Complex in Riverhead at 11 a.m. Wednesday for the anticipated plea hearing.
The hulking suspect, of Massapequa Park, Long Island, has maintained his innocence since his arrest in Midtown Manhattan on July 13, 2023, for the slayings of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello.
In January 2024, Heuermann was additionally charged with the death of Maureen Brainard-Barnes.
He was later charged with three more killings — the 2003 death of Jessica Taylor, the 1993 murder of Sandra Costilla and the death of Valerie Mack, who he allegedly killed, dismembered and mutilated some time between Sept. 1 and Nov. 19, 2000.
